Phase 1: Reflect on Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge

What is my knowledge of technology? (TK)

My knowledge of technology is very limited. I honestly feel intimidated by computers but have realized the more I work on them, the more comfortable I become. I can navigate the Internet, United Streaming, Websis, and Microsoft Office fairly well. I am feeling more confident with our social bookmarking, discussion boards on
SXU.edu, Blackboard, and our blogs. I would love to try a blog for my students' parents rather than a weekly hard copy newsletter but feel it may be too time consuming at this time.

What is my knowledge of pedagogy? (PK)

My position at our elementary school is a second grade teacher. I have used whole group instruction as well as small guided reading group instruction. I am looking forward to strengthening my small group reading instruction and organization of skill practice and independent reading fluency centers through our action research project this fall.

What is my knowledge of the content? (CK)

I have taught second graders for sixteen years. I am a Monmouth College graduate with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I am currently enrolled in my second year of a masters program in teaching and leadership.

Where do I see myself in the TPACK model?

I am very willing to work hard to learn about all the technology possibilities available for my students and myself. My goal is to be able to stimulate and fully engage my students with technology. I am trying to learn as much as I can to implement videos, software, hardware, digital media and internet safely into my curriculum. I am one of those digital immigrants educating the digital natives. Realizing this need and taking a technology class has brought me one step closer toward educating myself to be the best teacher I can become.
